Mobile Meals

Mobile Meals is a program designed to allow seniors the ability to receive low cost hot meals at home. This is extremely important for the elderly of Oklahoma City who can no longer get out to pick up things like groceries. The Mobile Meals program started at Ridgecrest UMC in the early 70's. The Program Coordinators are Mary Ainsworth and Fran Shumate. Both ladies work very hard to organize cooks and drivers, write the menus, shop, and keep inventory to make this program a tremendous ministry of the Ridgecrest United Methodist Church.
George and Naomi Harbeson Were some of the first Ridgecrest members to support a Mobile Meals Program in 1977. George recently passed away, and Naomi moved to Texas to be near family, but she comes back to visit when she can.

Our volunteers do not just come from our church. For example, there is a group of ladies from the Church of Christ who come once a month to prepare meals for delivery. Many of the Mobile Meals volunteers come from other local churches and organizations from the greater Oklahoma City area.
Mobile Meals was started because the needs of the seniors in our community were recognized to be very important. When Ridgecrest learned that seniors in Oklahoma City were not always provided for by family, the church stepped up and brought this ministry here. In 2003-2004, the Mobile Meals Headquarters were even located at Ridgecrest.
Have no fear, the drivers are here! Carol and Harry Hawley are very active in the life of Ridgecrest. Mobile Meals is just one of the ways they support our ministry.

Betty Harrison is another one of our dedicated volunteers.
Our Mobile Meals are sometimes the only decent and balanced meals that some of the folks we deliver to receive in a week. Without our deliveries, many seniors would not have anything nutritious to eat at all. Our routes get 6 meals a week served by four different churches in the area.
If you live in the greater Oklahoma City area and think that your talents could be used for this amazing ministry, please feel free to volunteer your time. We can always use more delivery drivers, and preparers. I guarantee that Mobile Meals is not just a ministry that shares the love of Christ with seniors, but it also ministers to the lives of the volunteers as well!
