Youth Ministry (UMYF)

20/20 Youth Company is the Youth group at Ridgecrest UMC. The name 20/20 comes from the idea that in order to see God correctly, one must see him clearly. One Must look at God through eyes of faith, not the eyes of the World.

This idea comes partly form Hebrews 12:2, which says: "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

The youth at Ridgecrest UMC are very active in many aspects of religious life. They have many annual events that help to foster spiritual growth and renewal, and also provide time for togetherness and community. Some of these events include: the Annual Float Trip, Acquire The Fire, the Turkey Bowl Football Game, and a week of local mission.

These kids are some of the brightest you'll ever meet. They have been taught on faith, simple theology, different religions and denominations, and contemporary issues that impact the Christian Community. They understand what the world needs and they are learning how to fill the gaps between secular and religious cultures, and how to spread the gospel in our ever increasing politically correct society.

Mission is very important to these kids, especially local mission work. Youth Pastor Matt Morgan believes that mission work starts at home first. He says:

"Mission work is definitely an important part of the Christian faith. One thing that must be understood is that you don't need to travel half way around the world to help the needy, feed the hungry, or spread the word of Christ. There are always people who need help right where you live."

This group puts this philosophy into practice as often as they can. For instance this past holiday season (and for the last 16 years) the Youth and the Jr. High Sunday School class delivered 50 love bags to the homeless of Oklahoma City. These love bags were filled with necessities such as: combs, warm socks, hats, gloves, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes; and some simple snack food. Although the need was greater then the gift, this act of sharing really impacted some of these kids, and it really opened their eyes to the need in our own city! This coming Holiday Season, we plan on delivering at least twice as many love bags!

At Ridgecrest, and especially in our youth group, there is always a place for anyone who wants to come and fellowship and learn of God's love and grace. If you are looking for a place to worship and are in the 6th through 12th grades you are always welcome here! We meet Sundays at 4:30 and go until 7:00PM. We meet in the Youth Building at the North end of the parking lot.
